Payoneer vs Wise: same client, different cost.
On the same modelled $1,000-a-month Ghana route, Wise lands near 0.90% effective ($108 a year) and Payoneer near 3.15% ($378 a year). The $270 gap is mostly FX spread. But cost is not the only axis — Payoneer is what most platforms default to, and mid-route caveats cut both ways. Ranges from published schedules and the kit's rails matrix, verified October 2026.
Side by side.
How to actually use this.
Rule one: separate your legs. Platform payouts (Fiverr, Upwork withdrawals) go where the platform routes them — for many sellers that is Payoneer, and the platform's 20% dominates the cost anyway. Direct client invoices are where rail choice is 100% yours.
Rule two: verify your corridor. These are Ghana-calibrated modelled ranges. Nigeria and Kenya corridors have different spreads and cash-out fees — the calculator prices all three, always as worst-case ranges, never fake-precise numbers.
Rule three: rail choice is the small money. Moving from a Fiverr route to a direct invoice recovers thousands a year; moving between direct rails recovers hundreds. Run your own number through the calculator's two stages. Full fee detail per rail: Payoneer fees · Wise fees · cheapest rails into Ghana.
Price both rails on your income.
Country, invoice size, frequency, current route — the calculator returns worst-case ranges across Payoneer, Wise, Grey, Raenest, Cleva, SWIFT and mobile money, and what each stage recovers.
Questions.
Which is cheaper, Payoneer or Wise?
On the same modelled $1,000/month Ghana route, Wise is cheaper: about 0.90% effective ($108 a year) versus Payoneer's 3.15% ($378 a year). The gap is mostly FX spread — modelled at 0.5% on the Wise route versus 2% on the Payoneer route. Verified October 2026.
Which is better for receiving payments from international clients?
For direct client invoices on supported corridors, Wise wins on cost. For marketplace payouts — where the platform routes your withdrawal through a specific rail — Payoneer is often the default, and the platform's commission dominates the cost anyway. Split: invoice direct clients on the cheapest corridor, keep Payoneer for platform rails.
Why does Payoneer cost more than Wise?
Two layers stack higher on the modelled Payoneer route: the FX spread (about 2% versus 0.5%) and a per-withdrawal flat fee of about $1.50 that the Wise route does not carry in the same form. Payoneer's published bank-withdrawal band of 1.2–4% is where the spread gets realised — see the full Payoneer fee breakdown.
Does Wise work in Ghana?
Yes — Wise is the cheapest scored route in the kit's Ghana rails matrix, at about 0.90% effective. The caveat on record: the mid-market exchange rate is used, and payout support into some African banks is partial. Verify your specific corridor in the calculator before making Wise your habit.
What about Grey, Raenest and Cleva?
In the same modelled scenario they land between 1.95% and 2.00% effective — cheaper than Payoneer, slightly dearer than Wise. All are direct USD rails inside the 1.5–6% Ghana corridor band. The cheapest-rails guide compares the whole set.
